Best resources for getting good?

I am an RTS player coming from Warcraft 3 so I have some background for strategy.

I am trying to learn how to actually micro and macro in this game, I know it takes a while to learn the special units and timings but I need an overall view of how top players navigate the map, what is standard map settings re map visibility, population cap, speed, etc.

Also any resources on how to actually fight? It seems units must get a direct order to attack a specific unit or building or they will just stand there? I have a hard time in big fights sometimes discerning whats what. Is it just practice or is there practical tips to aid control in engagements?

I hotkey and am learning the keyboard buttons for all the buildings and stuff as well but hard AI still beats me and is faster than me. Any links appreciated thank you!
