Never Played an RTS, how should I approach this game to get off on the right foot on the fundamentals?

Hello,

I've never played an RTS game in my life, I saw some youtube videos for the DE edition and I have to say, I am very intrigued. I plan to buy it ASAP and go through the included tutorials, but I was curious on how I should learn beyond the tutorial to actually being able to be decent at the game, I am competitive, and honestly I don't think this game community can be worse than League of Legends so I may plan to do ranked at one point, but right now I was planning to chill and try to learn how to play against the AI for some low pressure games.

My only main concern is the fact that I am not a micro-oriented player and I would consider my APM to be about the same as a 80 year old man, If the micro is that important however, I would be willing to put in the effort to try and learn this game as it looks very fun and the time period and history seems interesting.
