I have a question about pathfinding in definitive edition

I really enjoy Rise of Rome and played the original from 1998 now and then for all my life, especially now i am getting into it a lot again. So i am thinking about buying the definitive edition. I really think Rise of Rome from 1998 is pretty much perfect except the unit pathfinding, so the only reason why i would get definitive edition is just that, and maybe multiplayer.

So how is unit pathfinding in definitive edition now? Specifically is it still so terrible to load units into transport boats or did the improve that? Do units still clump up a lot, for example workers at a storage pit? Also, are there still people in Multiplayer now?
