Just came to say, started playing this game a month or so ago, and today decided to dip my toes in the ranked queue ocean.
First game was what I can only describe as a clusterfuck, in which I was subjected to an insane cheese which after googling I found to apparently be called the Persian Douche. You guys probably know more about it than me but the sheer terror upon seeing 20 vills march into my base and throwing down the TC was something I've never experienced in any competitive game ever. Even though I got destroyed in the repair-off, it was a hilarious opening to ranked gameplay, so if you're out there v., thanks so much for introducing me to the ripest of cheese openings, and for answering my questions about how to deal with it after the match!
Second game was rather different, standard economy based game which I won handily. All that time spent in bot games paid off there.
Just think it's incredible how a 20 year old game can still be so riveting and enjoyable for new players. Definitely hooked and can't wait to play more.
TL, DR: Played ranked for the first time tonight, got Douched, loved it, love this game, can't wait to go again!
