Being Noob stomped. Is this happening a lot to people right now?

Hi there. I'm a low ELO player in both 1v1 and TG. Approx 900 in 1v1 and 1200 TG. Play regularly with someone who is lower 1v1 elo (700) but similar TG elo to me.

Just played an arena game yesterday against someone who was higher rated (1100 1v1 and 1600 TG) and their "new" teammate who was unrated. The system matched us up, but we got promptly and easily defeated. No fun.

Just wondering which of the following scenarios are most likely:
1) Their partner is genuinely new to ranked, but simply really good. Okay, fair play and well done to you.
2) Just the age old problem of smurfing and people starting new accounts to stompt on inexperienced players like myself.
3) A problem with the new ELO/matchmaking system making the above more likely or more easy.
4) Inadvertent easy match making (i.e. they are not seeking it out). Since the average Elo of the team is being taken, and not the elo of the better player( i.e. they are not looking for easy match-ups) but the system is giving it to them.

Wondering if other people are having this issue? I personally think scenario 3 was the most likely. I mean these people were way out of our league. It's really no fun, when you're looking for balanced TGs. But I have to admit I do like the idea of the new TG elo calculation.

It would also be good to easily see the ELO of the team you're playing as the game loads. Then we could easily see if someone was smurfing, so we don't have to waste our time playing for 20 minutes to be massacred.
