How to deal with online lag and input delay?

Hello everyone. Recetly i have been playing more and more games where the other player has a wonderfull yellow or red circle. Which would result in massive input lag. Even performing the basic of tasks of scouting or force dropping food would result in a massive fail. Where as my opponet would seem to function just fine looking at my demos. should i just power my way through and try to get used to it, or just call early geeg. I understand the game has an audience that spans across the globe, but sometimes i wish i never had to deal with the lag. Also doesnt help not alot of american players play on vooby wolokingdoms. For those wondering, i am running on a pretty beefy laptop, with a wired university connection. Im in westernish usa, while playing on latest user patch on voobly with wololokingdoms.
