I realize that the expansion did not go to smoothly, but it seems to me that the 3d graphics of AoM or AoE 3 just don't age as well as the sprites of AoE 1 or 2. If they are willing to put the work into the art in AoM as they did in AoE, and will be doing in AoE3, I think that it would be a real great game.
Also, since it's only slightly historical (thanks to Atlantis) the expansion potential is just awesome to think about.
