Game doesn't recognise keyboard

Hi all; first time posting here.

I'm having an odd problem; when I load the game up a "MESSAGE OF THE DAY" letting me know that the game that I'm currently playing has been released appears and no matter what I press, it doesn't go away. The options are enter to "select" (exactly what I'm selecting; I don't know) B to go back and Y to close but they don't do anything. There's no way to clear it with the mouse (which seems like the dumbest thing to do; not even clicking the thing gets rid of it) so I'm stuck unable to play the game that I've bought.

Anyone else had this problem? I've restarted several times and tested and its not an issue with my computer; it works with literally everything else.
