If the tech tree was historically accurate for the period 400 AD to 1450 AD which is approximately AOE2 if we ignore a couple of anomolous post-medieval scenarios like Lepanto, then what would happen?
This isnt entirely a fair question as by making the tech tree historically accurate you are mainly just removing things rather than adding other units which the 'civs' might have had.
The obvious answer is that the meso civs would be in big trouble. They would lose all siege, all war-ships apart from the gally, crossbowmen, arbs, pikes, halbs and a load of armour techs.
In fact, the aztecs didnt have metal weapons so they would lose everything apart from the monk and the militia! Maybe we could give them spears and skirms as well.
Most civs would lose trebs apart from the Britons, Franks, Teutons and Chinese (there are probably a few other which would keep them). Many civs would lose BBC and BBT and I'm not sure anyone would get cannon galleons. Also I think only Byzantines would get fire ships.
What else would it change? Would anyone lose castles? Sone civs might cease to exist in the same way as the Portugese became a significant power after the medieval period.
