When I was 11, I used to play CBA on voobly, and I remember that whenever I used to play I would get all panicky, but before every match I would barely know what civ is good against another. So, I would go to my trusty pal, the aoe2 booklet you get when you bought the game. I would always look at the unit counters for every unique unit that the civs have. I would quickly flip to the page with my unique unit, and see what they were capable of. I’m not sure if this is correct, but I seem to remember the Jaguar Warrior not having much to counter by the books standards, so I would always be confused if I played Aztecs. To be honest, I don’t really remember if they were even right since Microsoft has gotten a lot of things wrong in aoe2. I remember getting Teutons or Persians and hating it, since they were so slow, not realizing they’re one of the best civs for CBA. Needless to say, britons were god tier in my eyes.
Now 4 years later I still play CBA, obviously much better than before, and I’ve become a pretty good player. I like to say it’s because of my roots.
Aoe2 is a magical game and I’m glad I grew up with it and it’s great community :)
