How to get started?

Hi everyone,

I used to play Age 2 way back in the day when it originally came out. I've just seen there is an HD remaster and then stumbled on this sub, having no idea there was still interest in the game. What version do I need to start playing multiplayer and what is the best platform for it? I am seeing it on steam and something called Voobly, and I'm not sure if it's possible to play on a Mac. The only other game I play is also very old, UO, so this stuff is all new to me.
