I don't understand egyptians. Audio cue: I need help

I love playing the egyptians more so than any other gods, but I can't reach late game the way I am playing, I am following a guide I read but it seems really old and it says Isis is the best egyptian God. But I can't seem to make her work, I tried Ra too but his Priest boost doesn't seem enough. And the soldiers are really weak, I cry seeing them die

Anybody can help me/teach me a bit of your egyptian greatness? Is there a newer guide around? How should I play with them? What god is the best? And more importantly, what do I do in early and late game with them?
