I mostly play Arena and Black Forest so mine are geared towards the late game.
Team One: Teutons, Spanish, Byzantines, Persians.
Teuton civ bonus makes War elephants and Conquistadors stronger against one of their biggest weaknesses, monks. Byzantine team bonus gives the teuton's monks 2X heal speed on top of their 2x healing range, and gives better healing speed to the Spanish Missionaries. All four civs have paladin and Persians have war elephant; and any of the four civs can go hand cannoneers to counter mass halberdiers, AND Cataphracts can cut down halberdier numbers very quickly for Elephants to wreck a base. Additionally, all four having paladin makes great use of the Persian's team bonus (+2 knight attack vs archers.) Spanish trade also helps them pump out their super expensive army comps (especially teutons/byzantines, Teutons having BBT, SO, and Paladin available, Byzantines having expensive techs for Cataphracts.
Team Two: Celts, Koreans, Khmer, Slavs
The ultimate siege squad. Celts and Slavs get +1 range to their already stronger/cheaper Scorps, and get slightly more use out of their onager line (from Korean bonus). Every civ can tech into their Siege upgrades faster and produce them faster. If it goes mid-late imp, I can't see much stopping Boyars/ Battle Elephants with those scorps/onagers behind them.
I think the first set is the ideal Arena team (despite lacking Aztecs) and the second is the ideal BF team. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Arabia and water maps.
