Norse Anti-Cav options?

Found myself in an interesting game against an Isis player (as Odin). They were spamming Chariot archer, war eles and a fairly significant number of mercs... I tried a lot of things and really struggled... I settled on a strange combination of ulfsark, frost giants and jarls trying to constantly micro to freeze the eles.

At one point he just went pure eles (no upgrades), and I had fully upgraded ulfs and the eles still tore them apart.

I eventually won by raiding, using rag, hitting 3 tcs at the same time... but every main battle was a stalemate and given my economy I should of been way ahead.
