Only half map used for last Cumans campaign.

I just finished the Cumans campaign and the last one had a map full like it was meant to be used. I played through it but only the right half was used before it completed by conquering the Byzantines. The left half is separated by a river with no way to get over there. Is there another way to play this scenario that uses the left half?
