How do you counter scout or maa rush

For Arabia maps. Several options. 1) build small walls for your woodline, gold mine and berries. 2) use counter units, place archers and spears in those resource areas. 3) no small walls, but build long walls surrounding your base with counter units’s guard from 2). 4) fight with vills whenever applies and get towers.

Is 1) the meta and used by pros all time? I feel 1) is always too stressful for me as whenever you have a over-chop later or an unnoticed hole it becomes a disaster especially for the scout rush. What do you guys recommend?
