why is it lame to steal boars?

i'm a T90 viewer and non-player (although i had an obsession with AoE1 as a kid) so i don't fully grawp the subtleties of playing, but i watched one of his older videos where he plays a couple 2v2s versus TheViper and during one of them TV tags one of the boars that spawn near T90's camp and takes it back to his TC. T90 complains that Viper "lamed" him by doing this. at first i thought it was just T90 being sarcastic (which is how it sounded, he didnt seem genuinely offended), but then i googled it and apparently boar-stealing really is frowned upon as lame.

my question to AoE2 vets is... why? surely stealing your opponent's resources is part and parcel of 4X/ strategy game play, especially against super-high-level players where every advantage is required? also from what i've read, boar-stealing without losing a unit requires concentration, so you have to give up some scouting time to do it - so it's not even like you're getting something for free.

so... yeah. why is it lame to steal boars or deers?
