Learning the game: break even point for upgrades?

So I am trying to learn the game and play 1v1s for the first time.

For some reason, I am banned from the NPL, even though I’ve played less than 30 games ever. Anyway, I can’t win a single game in RM/DM and I’m wondering if it’s because I am doing upgrades too early.

I am wondering if there is a guide for when to do upgrades. EX: get armor once you have 20 archers or get wood upgrade once you have 20 wood cutters.

I love this style of game but I hate fucking losing every. Single. Game.

And honestly voobly forcing you to the sharks when you have just a few games played is turning me off.
