A Shocking Discovery about EE's quality, involving the Mac port

I was idly browsing the Age of Empires Wiki, in which I noticed that someone has been adding pages in the wiki related to the Patches, and patch notes of Age of Mythology, in which I noticed that the Mac port of AoM had a "2.0 patch" in short a rather throwaway and general patch note basically revealed a few key details tied to Age of Mythology: Extended Edition:

  • Environment mapping has been added; certain units (such as *Scarabs and Kraken) will appear shinier.
  • Some load times have been reduced.
  • Rendering speeds have been improved under some hardware cases.

The original Mac version in short had no .CUB effects (which is why Krakens, and Scarabs are shiny in AoM+TT) and is reported to have rather atrocious performance on most systems (except a certain few) until the 2.0 patch resolved them, sadly unlike Mac, EE's 2.0 just did minor fixes to performance (players needing to entirely reconfigure the game themselves, and even modifying it to get 60 FPS on certain systems)

In short, the conclusion I'm making is that, Microsoft's latest pre-EE source code for Age of Mythology must've either been early Windows compatible "ready to port" for Mac, was the original Windows build of AoM that the Mac port is based off of, or Skybox was directly porting the Mac version back to AoM. All because Microsoft most likely DIDN'T have the finished Source Code from 2004.

TL:DR: EE is using a modified version of some sort of Mac port of Age of Mythology which didn't have the .CUB effects, and had poorer performance and maybe even pathfinding. Skybox having no fucking clue what they were doing, butchered it even more.
