Modern games recommendations for fill nostalgia holes

Hi all. First post at this subreddit but I think I'm at the right place. I've owned only 3 consoles in my life: SNES, PS1 and PS2. But those were the days. These past days I've been watching videos trying to remember my favourite games from back then and I wrote down all of their names.

As for the Sony consoles I am really hoping for the PS5 have some kind of retrocompatibility system, otherwise there's nothing else to do.

But the thing that drove me to create this post is about the Nintendo ones, specifically one game: Sunset Riders. I discovered recently that Nintendo has this thing called 'Virtual Console' and it contains some of my favourite games such as DK3, Mario Kart and F-Zero. But sadly misses Sunset Riders, Top Gear and many others.

I've been thinking of buying the New Nintendo 2Ds XL mainly because of the VC. But I don't think it justifies, I've watched several videos of DS and 3DS games and only gathered 6 names to purchase (2 of them are Mario Karts and other 2 are Mario vs DK). I'm picky about games, I know.

So besides waiting for PS5 to come out and spent 1.000 of my local currency on the 2Ds, the other alternative I can think of is new games. Modern games. Remakes or simply sequels. Here's a small list of replacements for some of my fav:

- Rollcage -> GRIP

- F-Zero -> Redout: Enhanced Edition

- Top Gear -> Horizon Chase Turbo

- Crash trilogy -> Crash N'Sane Trilogy

- Crash Team Racing -> Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

- Age of Empires I -> AOE I Definitive Edition

- Gran Turismo 2 -> Gran Turismo Sport

Oh man, I'm really putting faith that the PS5 will have some retrocompatibility because there are so many games that I would like to play again that doesn't have a proper sequel (NFS Most Wanted 2005 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2, to say a few). And I might have to buy the New 2Ds to play my dear SNES games but even then, where to play Sunset Riders? Any new game that, in some way, relates to this old cowboy relic? And let's not limit the subject only to one game, where could I play a new kart game as good as Mario Kart? What other replacements do you guys want? I personally want them to get back on making racing games with the arcade-feeling of the PS2 NFS, all of the new are focused on sim racing and the new NFS are shit. Other than that, a Diablo II remake would be greatly received if done right, but I lost my hopes with Blizzard after the Diablo Immortals fiasco last year.

I'm curious to hear suggestions and your wishes of remakes or sequels to good old games.
