Some questions from someone who played the game as a kid

Basically, I have been thinking about getting the game from steam (I used to play as a kid with a pirated copy) and I have a couple of questions:

1) I have Windows 10 right now, but last time I installed the game in my old computer (Windows 7, pirated copy) and played against the computer, it kept letting me win the game after like five minutes. Is there any compatibility issues, even if I use a Steam copy?

2) Is there any online? I kind of remember a friend commenting that the online was gone? But I also remember some comments about some fans doing something about it??

(Sorry for the stupid questions, but it has been 10+ years for me, XD)
