How do you counter the British deathball with Malians?

Hello everyone,

It occurred to me too much times, that playing Malians, I got myself f***ed up by Britons only spamming longbowmen.

At imperial age, how to counter this?
Champskarls doesn't work.
Light cavalry with farimba doesn't work.
Siege onagers doesn't work.
Elite skirmishers doesn't work.
