RMS design choice

Kinda looking for some validation on an idea here - some friends and I were playing some team games the other night and decided we want to adapt some classic maps with the new assets the expansions have provided. One of the ideas we wanted to include was implementing hostile “bandit” units, and have them attack villagers in the same manner that wolves/lions/Komodo dragons do. Would it be better/easier to reskin one of those units to look like a militia/spear unit, or would it be better to mod in a Gaia controllable militia that wouldn’t convert?
