Infantry bonuses are nice and all, and im not saying they are useless at all, certainly not for drushing/flushing, and flushing is almost always a go-to tactic for high-rated players.
But when you get to the castle-age, and then the imperial...infantry is kinda pushed aside for more flashy and overall more destructive units, you know?
No one really cares if your infantry does trample damage, attack 33% faster, or is more effective against other infantry(jaguar warriors), i mean, its nice when infantry vs infantry does happen, but castle-imperial mostly revolves around cavalry and ranged units/siege. I will make an exception for the Goths though, as they produce infantry so fast and so cheap that it doesnt really matter if you have a terrible k/d ratio. Nevermind that their uu is amazing against archers.
Want to say that halberdiers are always nice to have around, its more that champions and uu infantry(except huskarl) units are kinda left behind in the late-game.
The bonuses are always helpful, and the uu infantry units are great in certain situations, its just that they rarely have a chance to shine.
This is all just my take on it, anyways, im sure some have great experiences with infantry throughout the game.
Im well aware that many infantry-civs have alot more going for them than just their infantry, so im kinda looking at their bonuses in a vacuum.
