Teaming in FFAs

Hey AoE2 lovers,

I need your opinion on a "moral" question: Lately, I was playing a 5-way FFA on Land Nomad (as saracens). I started war with my neighbor and could take him out of the game while booming my Economy and grabing a lot of map control. In the meantime, my main opponent (vietnamese, ) took out one other Player and was about to destroy the last other player (Player 3), when I realized, that I would not be able to take him out on my own (since He was obviously a much more skilled Player and scoreleader by far). So I offered my help to Player 3 and saved his base for now. From there on, we made a Deal to fight the vietnamese Player together. Of note, we did not trade, just did not attack each other and focussed all our attention on the vietnamese Player. In the end, we succeeded (Mamelukes OP against Elephants), as out opponent gave up saying that "we were cheating" and that he will "never play with us again". While I can understand his anger, I am Sure that it was the only way for me to win the game (I defeated Player 3 afterwards). In the end, an FFA is about doing everything you can to win and it is not like I intended to Team up with Player 3 from the Start. I just recognized the situation and acted accordingly.

Do you think I cheated or would you do it the same way?

Tl;dr: I am a very Bad Person and teamed up with another Player in an FFA to defeat a superior opponent.
