I just started playing mp on gameranger

Hi!A while ago I asked about the game and how I can play multiplayer.Yesterday I tried to play a multiplayer game on gameranger.I was able to hold on for 30 minutes and then I got defeated.Anybody can please give me some tips on how to play and what civ should I use...I only tried to play Poseidon in mp and I kind of like him
