I first played this game when I was 7. It was the 46mb Age of Kings demo that didn't let you advance to the Imp age. I cycled through playing the pre-set random map game and the last 2 William Wallace campaigns till I was 11. Then I downloaded the Conquerors demo on a school PC and brought the precious data home using 19 floppy disks and played that till I was 13. I lost without fail if at Moderate difficulty or higher.
English wasn't my native language, and I was a real shitty reader at the age of 7. At that tender age, I vaguely figured out mangonels were pronounced "mag-no-nals" and the rest was history. That's still how I pronounce them when I read the word in my head. Thankfully, I've yet to have to say "mangonel" in a professional context.
I'm also thankful that I was never allowed into the Imperial Age, or else I probably would be stuck saying "trech-buckets" or something right now.
