Tips for micro needed

I am really bad at micro. Even if i set hotkeys....

Example

The AI was making Halbs and Longbowmen. I went Rams (filled with Champions) + Champions + SOs.

An enemy halb got through and began attacking my SOs and i accidentally made one of my SOs fire a shot, killing the halb and another of my SOs.

How do i prevent such stupid mistakes ??
