aoe2hd turtling in 4v4 200 pop. solution?

my comp is pretty recent. i turned off anti alias and 3d water. i even tried playing in a window in case being fullscreen was adding to the lag

but three players inluding me were turtle in late game. it really sucks the fun out of it even if its sort of playable
