As it is publicly known, running the vanilla version is very difficult on win 10, which is why almost everyone choose to run aoe3y.exe, namely the Asian Dynasty Expansion.
However, an ESO account cannot be created in Asian Dynasty, which makes it seem like a dead end, the two factors just kill every possibility. After a thorough investigation on the internet, I've finally found out the way to make it work on win 10.
1.control panel - programs - windows features on or off - legacy components - check directplay
2.go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin (or wherever your aoe3 is installed) , find aoe3.exe and rename it into whatever is not aoe3.exe (I named it abc.exe)
3.create a shortcut of it on the desktop, and right click- properties - compatibility - check run as an administrator and select windows XP in the compatibility menu.
- run the shortcut, enter the serials, go to multiplayer and now you should be able to register.
