i have purchased aoe3 cd very long time ago now i want to play multiplayer but heard that asian dynasties have large player count is it true?

how do i upgrade to asian dynasties?

do i have to buy complete edition?

can the same cd key (vannila version) work for asian dynasties expansion pack?

steam gives me error of invalid cd key if i add my cd key in it.
