I cannot believe they are adding Spanish to AOE2

There was no "Spanish civilization" at the beginning of AOE2, which is the collapse of WRE, when Spain was literally "Goths". Spain as a country did not even exist until late 15th which is almost at the end of the game. They do not fit with the game's timeline.

Goths already represent Spain. They have gunpowder units. If I want to use Spain I can simply play as Goths.

BTW, I cannot believe they are adding Carthaginians to AOE1. Carthaginians did not exist for most of the time periods of the game and they are literally a successor to Phoenicians. If I want to use Carthage I can simply play as Phoenicians.
