AofM came up in conversation last night at school. I was trying to describe the game in all its eternal glory to some friends who have never heard of it, and I found myself becoming incredibly nostalgic to a scary degree. Now I am looking for any modern games that most resemble AofM that anyone feels might come even fractionally close to reaching AofM level and can recommend. Any suggestions?

So many new brilliant things. Favor by capturing enemies. An "exchange" building where you can swap food for wood directly. A Craftsman Guild which acts as both the Armory and the Siege Workshop, getting rid of the problem that the Armory just sits there after a while. And the starting Hero who has different abilities per god is a brilliant concept. Also liking the auto-scouting bird, never done in AOM before.

Only gripe is that the dropoffs are the same as Greek, and the noisy drums at the start which my external bass speaker renders too loud.

I recently bought a new computer, and from what I gather, aom is not using the graphics card at all.

x64-based PC

directx 12

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

I have tried a number of things, like using nvidia control panel to force aom/aomlauncher exe to use the graphics card, tried running as administrator, running in compatibility mode (windows 7 and 8), graphics settings>graaphics performance preferences, etc. the GeForce app does not even recognize aom (didnt have it on my previous computer).

i know the whole integrated gpu issue comes up with laptops, but i dont even have the option to choose an integrated Intel GPU on nvidia control panel.

Just for comparison, for aom my GPU usage on Task Manager Processes chart is between 0-3% when aom is running, but it is at like 50% for aoe4 (something like that). i.e. aom does not appear to be using the gpu at all.

i scoured the steam forums and and posts from rtssanc and aomheaven and searched this subreddit but I was not able to find anything that provided a solution. Is there another way to force the computer to use the graphics card? Or is the GeForce application not recognizing the game causing the issue?

What is the max amount of villagers? Me and this guy were both playing as Poseidon, and I had a hard cap at 80, but when I checked postgame, he had like 95 villagers...

I can do okay against Zeus in water/low hunt maps,but in case of high hunt maps,I get demolished every time. I had to resign last ten games on Jotunheim. Whatever strategy or unit composition I try against Zeus,he always outbooms me,and destroys my Eco by early raids. Even my Migdol units are no match against his classical age units. Any tips and suggestions would be highly appreciated. TIA.

What are some pro players (perferably modern ones with the extended version) and where can I watch their games? Just to maybe learn something and get better

I play AOM over LAN via steam with 2 of my kids. A few weeks ago I had LAN issues, I could not see the host and the kids could no longer see me as host. I fixed it but I don't recall how. Now one of the kids is having the same issue.

I've been playing on and off for years now and know how the game works but I am completely terrible (always suck at RTSs) and don't see myself getting better to be honest. I can beat the campaign on hard and have good fights against hard AI. I can't really use hotkeys effectively and often have idle units, etc and im just slow in general. I feel like I would have more fun playing online but is it possible these days? I feel like the only people still playing this game are way to good for me. Any thoughts on whether playing online somehow is possible? Thanks!

Hello, I have one more question, I downloaded AOM: EE as a torrent so I can check if I like the gameplay before I buy it, but online seems not to work, is this a problem because of the torrent or a problem in general? Ty!

Do we have healers now for loki/cronos players? Is it still easy to lose early on while establishing resource collecting because your adversary snorted crack and swarms you at classical age? Any tips on best units for early stages (used to build a shit ton of infantry to defend myself, rarely worked :/)?

Hello, I have a question to ask, which is the best edition of aom to download compared to graphics, my experience with "tales of dragons" wasn't good, I felt something is wrong during gameplay.

As i see it about.

Get classical first. Have more dock than opponent, spam arrow ships?

Sometimes things go stale. But then boom. Water mythic unit. How to couter that as Thor for example?

Sometimes i Just "pretend" to go water. I have only 4 ships, and in reality just prepare for heavy classical rush, while my opponents is building ships. But its only low elo :D

Why nooone kills oppotents Easy to kill animal - deers, gazzelles, caribu.

I think it is quite easy way to disrupt your opponent, when you cant raid properly or dont know what to raid.

Lets say i push all enemy villagers with my RC, but cant really chase them. So I satisfy my need to kill on innocent animals nearby ...

I play AOM heaps and I have fun playing it but I'm moving to more console based games later and would like to carry over my first love of gaming to Xbox and Playstaion.
