Is AoM Heaven officially dead?

The recent activity on aom.heavengames.com has been almost nonexistent. News aren't updated anymore, uploads happen extremely rarely (Nickonhawk's new scenario is the only worthwhile one in years), posts on forums are left unanswered for months, if are answered at all. Seeing how rampant the website was back in 2004-2010, it's now more of a giant and helpful archive rather than a community centre. What do you think? Can we now officially declare this website dead?

Ancient thing I saw on an early version of AOM

My family got AOM when I was 4/5, this would've been around 2004/5 maybe, and it was in the UK. I remember seeing a weird clip of a cyclops fighting a bunch of swordsmen. Except it looked like a very odd version of the game, like it was some kind of alpha or something, it looked very odd, kinda like AOE 2 (I had that game at the time). I remember the cyclops throwing someone and him decomposing into a skeleton (odd since that isn't there in AOM). I always was puzzled by this, does anyone know anything about alpha/pre-alpha versions of the game. Looking at some early alphas I can see some influence of AOE.

I prefer AoE3 over AoE2; would I like Age of Mythology?

I'm mildly interested in classical pagan mythology, but some aspects of AoM leave me cautious about getting it.

I dislike some of the more tedious aspects of AoE2's system, such as the large number of low-value buildings, the need to construct drop-off buildings rather than having resources go directly to your stockpile, and the existence of large numbers of civilizations with few actual differences in gameplay. It's slow pace in general is tiresome as well.

I already know the drop-off system is still in the game (especially for the Egyptians), but are the other issues present?

New mechanics for new civs

Hi, welcome to my reddit post.

Today we need to talk about unique game mechanics for civilizations that are yet to be released and (possibly) find out the ones that suit our beloved game better. Obviously, most of the people here (including me) want to see AoM:DE because of the new civs. But it's important to realise that all new civs must be:

  • Unique enough from other civs, not just copy-paste
  • Not too unique, not just uniqueness-just-for-the-sake-of-uniqueness
  • Suit the spirit of the game, not medieval civs in ancient times
  • Suit the game balance, not chinese cataphratcs vs norse

Therefore, we need some unique mechanics to be used in future DE / DLCs. We can also borrow some of them from other games. Here are some of them:

From AoE3

  • Houses spawn villagers when built (but are not deletable)
  • Barracks support pop (but have a build limit)
  • Villagers are free, but have a higher train time
  • Villagers can't hunt, but farms are free
  • Villagers gather faster when near Temples
  • Villagers cost wood
  • Age advancement is 2x faster
  • Houses can gather resources in 10-tile range (but cost more)
  • Mill: a large farm that costs 300 wood, but can support 5 villagers and requires no drop-off point
  • Medium/Heavy/Champion upgrades yield extra +5% attack/hp
  • Wonders refresh GPs (but can not be deleted)
  • TECH: Houses gain an attack
  • TECH: Infantry gains bonus damage vs heroes
  • GP: [age 1] Instantly creates a free TC on a chosen settlement. This TC can't attack.
  • GP: [age 1/2] Villagers temporarily gain an ability to use ranged attacks on enemies (these attacks deal 80% less damage to other villagers)

From AoE:RoR

  • Villagers are cheaper (but no real military bonuses)
  • Faster wonder construction/Lower wonder cost
  • Villagers move faster when near Towers
  • Siege has 2x attack/hp and 2x cost, but occupies the same pop space
  • TECH: Longer range archers
  • TECH: Cavalry occupies less pop

Unique

  • Fortresses can be used by caravans just like markets
  • Siege weapons must be built by villagers, are powerful, but can not move
  • Every armory upgrade proveides +2% speed to units (stsacks additively, max +20%)
  • Recieve 2 MUs every age up instead of 1
  • Recieve a villager after each researched eco tech
  • Trade resources for favor
  • Each created unit/building gives 2 favour upon creation
  • Age advancement is 3x slower, but free
  • No farming allowed, but can train herdables
  • Sacred herdables can be trained, fattened and killed for favor
  • Resource drop-off points can be garrisoned
  • Cannibalism: Recieve 5 food after each killed enemy soldier
  • TECH: Every tower improves the attack of all other towers by 3% (stacks multiplicatively, max +75%)
  • TECH: Every villager increases the speed of all other villagers by 0.5% (stacks multiplicatively, max +50%)
  • GP: [age 2/3] All your walls are fully healed and become invulnerable for 20 seconds

Chinese expansion (and both Aztec mods) possible in AOM game without Extended Edition, perhaps as created mod?

Alas I doubt it's possible due to many stuff being hardcoded and requiring the Extended Edition's (badly made) code plus game files, however I wish there was a mod that allows people to play with the Chinese (and by extension, both Aztecs mods) on the non-EE version of AOM. I have the original game with the Titans expansion (plus a few other stuff, like the Golden Gift, 4 bonus DLC skirmish maps and some other minor things) installed however I can't play the Extended Edition on my potato computer. Whenever I install the EE version, it requires me to download 5 dll files and even then it doesn't work. Honestly would be grateful if it's possible and someone has ever made it, I only played the EE version once years ago when I visited a friend of mine for a day and played the game on his better PC just trying out the Chinese expansion for myself, also this was long before the Aztec mods were created.

Jason and the Argonauts

Haven't played the campaign in a couple of years, but does anyone know if there's a particular mission where you encounter Jason at all? I know you can summon him in freeplay under Zeus, I just don't remember if you play with him during the main storyline.

Norse army composition

Hey guys, right now trying to learn loki and so far my games are decided in the first 8-10 mins depending on how well my hersir rush goes. Im not sure how my army composition should be. I usually go hersirs and back them up with some TA early game. For later, im not sure what to do. Especially egyptians with axeman+chariot archers are a challenge. Counter infantry are a big problem aswell. Can i get some advice on how can i build my army vs certain matchups ? Im playing titans version btw.

looking for which is the best/least worst s2-like game made within 2012-2021

how many unique units in total does aom ee have compare to 4 or other aoe i suppose?

How to deal with someone who puts up walls asap and then just uses archers?

So as the title says.

After my last post I started watching BoIT and reading Thor BOs. I've gotten to the point where I can get to Classical by 4.5/5 minutes and then Heroic by about 10/11 minutes.

However my same friend has started, well always done it, as soon as he can he has walls up and will pelt my army with his archers from behind them.

Now the issue I'm having is usually I can get about 3-6 RC headed to his base by the start of the Classical era, but he's already gotten his walls going by that point.

So now I'm left in a situation where once my initial raid failed/slowed him down he's gotten portions of his base where I didn't raid walled in and ranged units going. So now I'm forced, as Thor, to Power level into Heroic/Mythic just to get siege/myth weapons and he then starts using his mass ranged units to turtle crawl. I switch to mass Huskals/RC and then he'll start to either use his chariots, if Egyptian to fire and dart away leaving him to pick off my RC/Huskarls or he'll make me come to him where he'll use the AIs/Wall pathing to his advantage and attack my units with his, but due to how gates work he can attack my units but my units will just attack the gate.

Is there any way to combat this as a Thor player?

Whats in your opinnion the wors/most boring mission in the fall of trident campaing for me it has to be a fine plan Atlantis campaign is gold for me (most fun) so i dont really have any complains against it.

Beat aom mission 29 unlikely heroes in a different way:)!

So normally you would reunite the handle and hammer head, don’t do that! Go ahead and amass a huge army, then when the time the giants attack comes around. Fight them head on with ervery thing you’ve got.

I’ve you manoeuvred correctly you’ve won the battle and can now head on to the ram and gate and actually destroy both, fun little way to open up Tartarus yourself😎😎
