I am a very casual AOE2 steam watcher, ie. I watch ZeroEmpries on YouTube sometimes. I havn't played in years and am interested in getting into the game. AOE2HD is currently on sale and I really want to buy but I just don't understand how any of it will work.

I have a bunch of questions and no-one ask, if I need post elsewhere let me know!

If I buy the game will I only be able to play with other people who have the HD edition but no DLCs?

Can I begin to play online as soon as I buy?

Can I play online against friends?

If I practice and get good will I be at a massive disadvantage without the DLC civs?

Does buying this mean I can get the small tress, etc mods?

What is Tunngle? Should I play with some cracked version on that?

What is AOE2 Online, is that the same as AOE2 definitive edition, what is that? Should I wait for that to be released?

With the nice Steam Sales discount, I decided to buy AoE2 HD with all the DLCs. My first issue was that it couldn't start, but replacing the launcher.exe with the aoe2 file, renaming it and adding the SKIPINTRO flag as start-up parameter fixed it. Now I have issues with the actual game.

Single player and campaigns have frame drops every ~3minutes for ~15seconds. I have unchecked everything in the settings that could cause it without success. I also disabled Steam overlay and did the -dxlevel80 flag but nothing changed.

I can run 3D games like CSGO just fine, and Aoe2 CD works fine too. Is there anything else I can do that might fix? Can any of the Beta versions help? (Noting that I also want to play multiplayer on the official AoE2 HD menu, but I will stick with CD version for Voobly. ) Any help is appreciated!

I am a low 1600/ high 1500 on steam and i want to get better. I am always too slow. I heard about good scenarios on the workshop to get better.

Any recommendation?

I am trying to play with a friend on multiplayer but when we first tried the good old connection problem occurred. I also tried to connect to other games with the same result.

Through VPN i finally managed to join other lobbies but i still can't connect witg my friend in particular. She did the same things I did but the game just won't connect each other.

I read somewhere that i'm suppised to open some particular ports so i'll try that when i have time.

But why the hell does it let me connect to EVERY lobby except my friend's one (who can join every lobby as well)?

Hey guys! Me and a few friends were looking for some custom games to play on steam @ Aoe2HD. I have googled around and found some threads about custom maps not working properly due to being made for AoC/voobly etc. Could someone please share some maps with custom triggers that would be fun for casual players, that do work for Aoe2HD?

Basically, instead of building houses or anything with your villagers, you immediately send them in 3 different directions to explore the map. Your scout also just beelines towards the other side. Any sheep you find also immediately explore as much map as possible.

If done correctly you should have like 700 score by 3 minutes (compared to 400). Now you hope the enemy resigns seeing how behind they are. Much like smush or trush it's a bit all in and if it doesn't work you're in a bit of a predicament. I think maybe the early map control can sometimes be enough to compensate for 0 villager production.

Tends to work around the 1000-1600 HD elo bracket or against a friend that you want to mess with. Usually met with "fuck u smurf go play ur own elo"
