Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Smurf

Is it Smurfing if you never play rated games, but mostly FFA and occasional 1v1 unrated games? What’s the harm if, assuming this is smurfing, you only play games that don’t affect other peoples’ ratings?

This is a small community. FFA is an even smaller community. I don’t want a bad reputation. After watching some YouTube videos and consulting this subreddit, I’ve started playing again—always as Ports—and I get called a Smurf if I win as if I’m deliberately trying to deceive people who join my games. I am a conscript. Part of the reason why I don’t like rated games is that it pigeonholes you into playing with people of the same rating and punishes losing streaks if you try to play against higher rated players so you can be better. Also, players concerned with rating often try to fix games so they don’t lose. You see this in team games mostly. Is this actually a shitty thing to do, or are my opponents being salty?

Don’t wanna end up on pest lists in so small a community.
