I am currently a conscript in supremacy, and recently I have been trying to play more ranked matches to increase my rank. However, I get kicked from almost every single lobby I join when they see my rank. And it's not like I don't know how to play, I have about 300 hours in game, I just don't play ranked games. The ironic part is that most lobbies I join are advertised as "noobs only" or "all welcome." It is extremely frustrating when you see several of these supposedly "all welcome" lobbies but then get kicked from all of them and then have to spend like 45 minutes to an hour getting kicked from more of these lobbies until one pops up that actually means it. So please, don't waste people's time by promising a "noobs only" or "all welcome" game if you're just going to kick them if they're a noob

Anyone else feel like m@a trush is the strat they encounter the most? I swear 4 out of 5 matches it's what I'm against. Almost wishing they would nerf towers more, tbh, just because I'm so bored of playing against the same thing over and over and over.

So I bought the game yesterday because I saw there is still a competitiv scene arround the game. And since Starcraft II stresses me out sometimes I thought I give it a try. I downloaded and installed the ESOC Patch in hopes there would be some ppl playing. The Gamebrowser seems quite empty and in terms of 1v1 I found 2 or 3 games at a time. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to connect to some sort of matchmaking server/Lobby or something? Are people using the matchmaking option in this game?

I was wondering if there is a way to edit those maps to allow the player to take over command of the city as opposed to being the one that has to lay siege to it. Is this at all possible?

I've recently got back into the game and love it! I've been giving the Aztecs a try but I feel like if I dont win early I might as well quit. Aztec infantry are just shredded and it has been starting to frustrate me. I would like to know how Aztecs should be played late game along with card recommendations and maybe unit compositions. It's really great to play this game again and I'm excited to be back!

I want to play LAN with 1 other person with a few mods; More population, More resources, and a mod that allows us to zoom further out, as it looks like I'm using a magnifier.

I found all the mods on AoMH, but I can't get a Zoom mod to work with another player, while on the other end, Voobly only has the Zoom mod.

Is there a way to combine AoMH mods with Voobly mods, or no?

hypothetically, how hard would be to add an automatic pairing function to the HD/Voobly lobbies? Is this something that could be crowd-funded, designed and built, so that it's ready-to-go so all Microsoft/Voobly has to do is plug it in?

Seems like this is a feature that exists in pretty much all other large online gaming communities, and as AOE II continues to grow, would make the competitive community much more robust--not to say it's stagnant, but maybe not as robust as it could be.

The basic concept would be an option to jump into a 1v1/3v3/4v4 game with similarly-ranked players on arabia, black forest, nomad, or a random map pack (or maybe a 'featured' pack, that includes maps from an upcoming tournament, etc.) that would obviously start within a reliably short span of time, and require a lot less thought and fuss to balance (obviously the algorithm would need to accommodate pre-made teams as well).

1. Is it possible to increase the tribute fee above 30% (e.g. set a tribute fee of 50%)?

2. Is it possible to have different tribute fees for different resources (e.g. have a higher tribute fee for food)?

3. Is it possible to use annex units to modify a building to add archer fire? Specifically I was thinking of a UT which would add a "second volley" to a castle, which fired a large number (e.g. 8) of 1 damage arrows at a slow rate (e.g. 5). In this case the castle essentially would have 2 attacks (1 which fires every 2.03 seconds and 1 which fires every 5 seconds).

When I try to setup patch it says "not detected at" while I have all exp via steam.

What will I do?

My bowman, any military unit does not auto attack buildings or villagers. just other military units? HOW DO I CHANGE THAT. i want to place soilders in one location and have them destroy everything?

I'm a pretty shit player that constantly gets stomped by a friend who loves to spam elephants/ ballista elephantes. I tried to counter them with halberds/priestes/onagers but he always wins the fights. He just rushes me with a wave of death and I always end up losing out. Can you guys give me tips?

You know, like in football/soccer, when there’s a player from the opposing team hurt, you kick the ball outside so that medical assistance can enter the pitch.

I’ve tried to find a few but haven’t really gotten any conclusive results apart from the obvious game being played like it’s supposed to.

I just found out that this old game had an HD remake on steam, went out to buy it plus the DLC.

Turns out its a mess, it runs at what like 25fps? I thought it was just me being used to smooth modern games but I went and found an old pirated copy and got it. Side by side there's almost no difference apart from the slightly crisper sprites/textures and zoom out. But most of all, why is the game from the early 2000's runs smoother than the newer version?

Choppy scrolling, even seeing the move animation when you right click makes me cringe, gameplay overall just feels like shit 15~20fps. Also, why the hell is there no resolution option?

My thoughts on this is if you want to play MP sure get the game and bear through all of that crap, if you want to relive the SP campaigns just pirate it, it's like 200mb and 2mins of downloading compared to the shit show that you paid for on steam.

How do I zoom out so that my screen sees much more landscape?? Saw some videos where people have it pretty far out and can see very far.

I almost never make gunpowder units and I don’t know what the point of them is. I usually play as Britons or Byzantines.

Is there a lot of overlap? I know that there seem to be strong feeling between AoE 3 and AoE 2, but I don't notice it as much for AoM.

I often find I want to mute someone online. Recently I tried using the chat menu to click the trumpet to disable chat with one player but I found I still received messages in game from that player. This method seems to only make it so I can't talk to them.

I hear there's a command that disables chat with a player? Like a !mute 1 for the blue player?

• In a late game scenario, would you rather have the Ethiopian siege with their extra blast radius or the Mongol siege with their faster movement speed? (Keeping in mind that Ethiopians also get BBC whereas Mongols do not)

• Which offers more to your team: an Ethiopian flank where they can execute the archer meta better than most civs and provide a scary lategame to boot, or a Mongol pocket with a great scout rush, team bonus, and availability of Mangudai in the late game?

So, lately I’ve been enjoying playing as the Italians, with the awesome UU and naval prowess. But I have some questions regarding the late strategy on land. Should I go all out with Genoese Xbowmen plus condos and BBC? Or make use of Hand cannons plus Genoese Xbowmen and Hussars? Is it even viable to use Hussars? And does it make sense to use fully upgrade to arbalest to mix them with Genoese Xbowmen?

I just started playing this with my GF, and we're having the problem that the game is too difficult vs bots. I have some experience with aoe2, but she hasn't.

We know the very basics. We could learn how to play better by watching tutorials etc but we mostly want to play for fun and not having to study the game.

I'm using the old ai, which is supposedly easier, but on moderate we always lose. On easy, we win, but it's so easy that it's not fun at all. Is there a way of having an in-between scenario? Also we tried leveling it out with bots on our team etc but doesn't work well.

And is there a way of making sure our town centers spawn close by? Most of the time they're quite far apart, and it would be nice if we could join them early on as it makes defense easier. Having a small map makes it more likely but then the enemy is right next door.

Hi Guys, I´ve made a chart for ingame analysis, the chart allows you to understand were you are in terms of idle TC time, with is my believe, it´s an indicator of how well you can do multi tasking, and also how much can you improve. the analysis stops in castle age because you can do multiple TC.

The data you need to put is vils you have when clic into feudal and castle, also reaching times and if Loom WB and TW has been researched by you. Emphasize that if you have 20 vils and one died, you need to put 21 otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to achieve anywere.

Can civ wins exist when players like Daut use Huns, the most restricted civ, in a stage of the game where a civ like Berbers, used by an equal like St4rk, was using the most pop efficient answers to them by simply using the optimal option at the optimal time? Civ matchup was essentially trounced by Daut’s game sense. Are there still matchups where a player can still claim that their civ is countered perfectly by someone else’s?

I have a civ who has FU Cavalier with a UT that gives them +2 pierce armor, the UT take 2 minutes of research time and cost 650F 450G. Compared to Paladins, it cost 700 less food and 300 gold (as Farimba). Is this OP?

Hello guys, why the full screen mode autoscales to (is written down,) maximun 16xx x something and doesn't write 1920x1080? I see it full HD,pretty sure, but the furthest I can go in the resolution (manual select) is 16xx x something.

Also can I report somewhere the in game bugs?

Another thing, why the zoom 4x shows great details compared to zoom 2x and 1x. I mean when I select 2x, the units seem to be a little blurry when I zoom in or out but in 4x, every unit is so awesome and detailefld and I would use that setting if the zoom wouldn't cap ( when zooming out) so near the map. I can barely can fit 12 units in there.

Are they using aoe3 engine? If not what are they using for the game?

I noticed that the map is very much zoomed out in classic mode, making everything look tiny. I want it to look like classic AOE, including the scale of the map/units. The scaling slide in the settings menu doesn't seem to do anything, and the zoom feature appears to be disabled. Changing the resolution doesn't appear to work either. Is there any way to make classic mode not so zoomed out? Its kind of distracting.

How does everyone assign their villagers that were on animals after all your sheep and boar are gone? Do you split them up between food, gold and wood, put all of them on farms ect.

I really need to know this game. So when I was younger, one of the first games I can remember playing on my dad's laptop was a sorta top down, stratagey, kinda age of empires, western cowboy game. I remember that you had dynamite that you could blow stuff up with, and for some reason I remember It had a prominent waterfall in the game. I also think I remember one of the challenges I had was to save a women stuck on a rock, and one of the tools I had was dynamite. I would really like to remember this game and start playing it! If anyone can remember it, please help!

I just had Byzantines 2 games in a row and this is one of the civs I really don't know how to use. First game was on HD, i played vs Vikings and tried a feudal trash spam to counter crossbows in castle age. This hurt my eco too much so I ended up getting destroyed by viking knights and elite skirms while advancing to castle myself.

The second game was on voobly and the opponent went for a korean trush, which I somehow sucessfully stopped with a 20 pop scout rush and a lot of vill fighting. In castle age I went full on mangonels and pike spam, I think I was at 10 Mangonels and 30 pikes when I won.

But in both games, it did not seem like i played to my civs strength, or like i could not use my civs strength. In the first, my army could not do any damage to my opponent and in the second I had a lot of mangonels and I used the cheaper pike bonus... but the scouts were what saved my a*s and that would have been easier with a lot of the other civs.

What is your usual game plan, when you get Byzantines? Any advice, how I could have reacted differently?

What's the point of typing a comment that's only supposed to piss off your opponent when you're obviously winning and there's been no prior chat or any laming. He could see from my nick that we're both Finnish and wrote in Finnish. I didn't respond. It wasn't anything terrible but it was kinda rude. I tried to come back but ended up losing and typing gg and nothing else. At least I was the bigger man.

I bought HD+DLC on steam about two months ago, and I used to play on standard when I was a kid. The first time I tried a standard game on HD, I was totally blown out of the water by the new AI, and I was obviously super rusty.

So, I set out to get better at the game by forcing random civs on random maps, starting with standard 1v1, then adding more free-for-all players to where I could handle a 4 player free-for-all.

After feeling comfortable beating 4 player free-for-all on standard, I decided to try a few moderate 1v1 matches (again, random civs and maps) and on my third round, I beat the Byzantines while playing as the Incas (it was my first time playing as them). It was a long game, and all of the gold on the map was extinguished by the end of it. I had to change my army composition a few times in order to make a successful final push.

This milepost took me about 35 hours of game time to accomplish. I think I could keep on the same trend and eventually (maybe with 150 hrs of gameplay) defeat a random 1v1 civ on hard or hardest, but I'm worried that if I jump into online games with real humans, I'll face a similarly tough learning curve, and be cursed with bad habits from playing the AI only.

My Qs: what are the fundamentals for pivoting from playing the computer vs P2P? Are there any standard benchmarks you should meet before attempting playing online? If so, what gradual mileposts did you aim for in order to achieve those benchmarks?

I dont have anyone to share this with who would care or understand, so I thought I would post here. I grew up playing this game with my dad. He had me playing when I was early as 5 years old I think, even though I didnt know what the hell I was doing. I remember so often coming home from school and him playing this game 5-10pm so often (he was a pretty high level white collar executive, which makes this more amusing now looking back). It was funny how addicted we both got, because it made my mom mad, and she was the fool who had mistakenly given my dad the first AoE as a present. My dad was by no means amazing at the game, but he just loved the strategy, and he loved the monks. I still dont know why, and whenever we played against each other ( a lot), I usually could win by mass producing paladins. Still, up until he got sick, we both played together, whether teaming up on six AI's, or going head on head.

When my Dad got early onset alzheimers, we moved and weren't able to play for about a year because of other things going on. (I was in high school) I was in huge denial about it until we finally got around to playing head to head again, 1 v 1. He was terrible. I easily destroyed him. I tried refreshing him the techniques and everything, but to no avail . I was so frustrated, I left him despite his pleading to "come back and keep playing with me." This past Thanksgiving, he finally died after not been able to communicate or do anything in about a year. I come back to this moment and feel so terrible every time. Despite the fact, I am so grateful for this game as weirdly pathetic as it may be. It only cemented my already spectacular relationship with him, and made my childhood so much better. I hope some of you have had similar experiences, because even though I'll never be able to play or see my dad again, I still have this game.

I was doing a pretty intensive campaign run (trying actually to get better on time and micro) and I really wanted to watch this and maybe post on internet, but it seems that it got somehow messed up when recording, and the message says that it had a problem with a stop or pause during the game, something along of these lines.

I never had such problems before, but it means that pauses can mess up my recording? The .rec file always showed problems like these or just on campaigns it may occur? It means that we can't pause if we want to make the game work? And what about tributes? I guess that what caused the problem was a tribute that I had to do...

So, after so many DLCs any new maps, what would be a terrible civ and map combination that I can put myself on purpose on a 1x1 match? I mean, of course the opponent civ will also matter, but what would be a really bad choice of civ on a determined map with the current game balance?

For example, Saracens tend to be not really that good on 1x1 (generally speaking, although I enjoy to play the civ), but what map would make then suffer even more? And what other cases we may have of this kind?

Hey all, I just bought AOE2 HD recently. I used to love playing the original AOE2 when I was a kid and thought of giving the HD version a try. Being used to the unit variety provided by newer games like total war, are there any mods that provides this for AOE 2 and are usable in campaigns? any other graphical mods recommendation? Thanks!

Hello Guys :) I am experiencing some weird Graphics Glitches in AOM EE while using Meteor God Power. I am showing this in Editor, but this also happens in Cutscenes, Random Maps, Online everywhere. I have got the game right from Steam, so I don't think there is something wrong with the game. Its some sort of Transparent overlaying texture I guess. If anyone has a suggestion on how I can Fix this, or has witnessed this problem please let me know. And also I am getting Black colored shading in some effects, but I think this is all related to only one problem. PLEASE HELP :( I have attached screenshots.
