I recently bought both AoE and AoE2 Definitive Editions on Steam. AoE2 works great, lots of fun. I've logged about 40 hours in the last two weeks. It's like 2001 all over again. Unfortunately, after downloading the first one I can't seem to launch it. The logo pops up, it acts like it's about to play the opening video and it just says AoE:DE has stopped working and closes.
I have done endless googling and tried every fix I could find. Launching .exe doesn't work. Updating things doesn't work. I redownloaded C++ distribution or something, that didn't work. Someone said to force it to launch DirectX11, no luck there. I posted on the Steam forums and got no response and I'm running out of ideas (short of replacing my computer, which I didn't mention meets all requirements).
Anyone else have this problem? I really enjoyed the first game back in the day and would love to play it.
