Indian vills being able to slaughter cows for food
That's just crazy talk. Did you even do any research devs?

I dont care how inefficient it is. I cant stand that whine sound they make. Die llamas!
So I'm playing through the Saladin campaign on DE and I just finished 5. Jihad! Mission 6, the final mission where you siege Acre, should have popped up on the campaign map, but it didn't. The first five missions have a checkmark and the Saladin campaign on the African Campaigns menu has a checkmark indicating that I've completed it, but again, I haven't done mission 6 and I can't access it.
Had this happen to my opponent, winning me the game, then to me the next game. A palisade gate wouldn't start construction. Even when I clicked multiple times the villager wouldn't touch it. Had to remove the foundation and replace it.
Both times the gates were vertical with the upper end to the right and lower end to the left.
Sorry for reporting here and not the MS site but the forums don't let my accounts post.

At around 1150 I have started to come across players who will intentionally lame my collected sheep under/near my TC. How can I stop this? If I garrison the TC it will shoot my sheep and if I don't garrison they kill the sheep with the scout. This usually happens when I'm collecting the boar and scouting the opponent so my scout is not close. If it does happen I have recovered by pushing/milling deer and dropping farms but it is hard to come back.
I have about 700 ranked 1v1 games played as the Mongols but DE was really my first all-in multiplayer experience with AoE. I am now able to execute any build with the Mongols (drush, M@a, trush, flush, scrush) and I have the timings specific to the Mongols down pretty well. Not all builds are strong for the Mongol civ but there can be certain times where a weaker build will have better results, for example, m@a into a champs build against a civ like Goths so I see the Mongols as flexible because they can win with builds besides their power composition (Mangudai and Hussar). Now I am wondering are all civs this flexible? Is the mongols the most flexible civ? Is there a more flexible civ? And are some civs are more specific but strong on that specific build? I guess I am asking as this is the point where I’m about ready to shed my “main” and start looking into random or tournaments where more than one civ is played usually so I would like some more build flexible civs and avoid build specific civs (talking like fast Imp Turks here). What’s a fun civ that has a great power composition but can do it all too? Persian? Saracen?
I used patrol with samurai and well they just kept walking so that’s bugged to shit. I hear attack move is the next big thing. Google doesn’t explain what it is though. How’s it different from patrol? How do use ?
I recently read a thread on this sub about some guy that would type in chat that he would resign if someone lamed his boar and then do so if that happened lmao. It reminded me of this online book written by a former competitive street fighter player.
Here's the link. It's a good read for gamers that play on any competitive level at all
http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/introducingthe-scrub
This is the excerpt that I find would be most useful for aoe2 players when it comes to posting about boar laming or the current wall meta.
The derogatory term “scrub” means several different things. One definition is someone (especially a game player) who is not good at something (especially a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is certainly no shame in that. I mean the term differently, though. A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win.
Now, everyone begins as a poor player—it takes time to learn a game to get to a point where you know what you’re doing. There is the mistaken notion, though, that by merely continuing to play or “learn” the game, one can become a top player. In reality, the “scrub” has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He’s lost the game even before deciding which game to play. His problem? He does not play to win.
The scrub would take great issue with this statement for he usually believes that he is playing to win, but he is bound up by an intricate construct of fictitious rules that prevents him from ever truly competing. These made-up rules vary from game to game, of course, but their character remains constant. Let’s take a fighting game off of which I’ve made my gaming career: Street Fighter.
In Street Fighter, the scrub labels a wide variety of tactics and situations “cheap.” This “cheapness” is truly the mantra of the scrub. Performing a throw on someone is often called cheap. A throw is a special kind of move that grabs an opponent and damages him, even when the opponent is defending against all other kinds of attacks. The entire purpose of the throw is to be able to damage an opponent who sits and blocks and doesn’t attack. As far as the game is concerned, throwing is an integral part of the design—it’s meant to be there—yet the scrub has constructed his own set of principles in his mind that state he should be totally impervious to all attacks while blocking. The scrub thinks of blocking as a kind of magic shield that will protect him indefinitely. Why? Exploring the reasoning is futile since the notion is ridiculous from the start.
You will not see a classic scrub throw his opponent five times in a row. But why not? What if doing so is strategically the sequence of moves that optimizes his chances of winning? Here we’ve encountered our first clash: the scrub is only willing to play to win within his own made-up mental set of rules. These rules can be staggeringly arbitrary. If you beat a scrub by throwing projectile attacks at him, keeping your distance and preventing him from getting near you—that’s cheap. If you throw him repeatedly, that’s cheap, too. We’ve covered that one. If you block for fifty seconds doing no moves, that’s cheap. Nearly anything you do that ends up making you win is a prime candidate for being called cheap. Street Fighter was just one example; I could have picked any competitive game at all.
Doing one move or sequence over and over and over is a tactic close to my heart that often elicits the call of the scrub. This goes right to the heart of the matter: why can the scrub not defeat something so obvious and telegraphed as a single move done over and over? Is he such a poor player that he can’t counter that move? And if the move is, for whatever reason, extremely difficult to counter, then wouldn’t I be a fool for not using that move? The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chances of winning. That is true by definition of playing to win. The game knows no rules of “honor” or of “cheapness.” The game only knows winning and losing.
A common call of the scrub is to cry that the kind of play in which one tries to win at all costs is “boring” or “not fun.” Who knows what objective the scrub has, but we know his objective is not truly to win. Yours is. Your objective is good and right and true, and let no one tell you otherwise. You have the power to dispatch those who would tell you otherwise, anyway. Simply beat them.
Don't know if this has been talked about much recently. Even after the most recent patch, my game is still struggling to launch, disconects every now and then during multiplayer, and the stuttering has become worse. Now every 30 seconds or so, my game will pause for about 4 seconds and then everything will rubber band to catch back up. Much worse than before
Edit: can't even launch game atm. Might be something on my end
I don't know if it's just me, but my game has turned into "Full Archer Rush Simulator 2" and I hate it. It's not even that it's unbeatable or anything, it just gets extremely repetitive and sometimes downright amazing. I mean, I'm talking I could counter-push with 40 skirms and some infantry, us that infantry to kill every single archery range they have, and the response will be "well I guess I should make MORE ARCHERS" as they build 40 more ranges in the back of their base, as if the only sensible solution is to mass so many archers they can kill my skirms.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I probably lose 50% of the time because I so often win an encounter, raid their eco and then think "surely he wouldn't be stupid enough to keep massing archers," I stick to the skirm army I have, and then omg the dude legit did nothing but mass archers for the next 10 mins and he's counter pushing with it. Yes I have 40 skirms but he has 90 friggin' archers and once he wins this encounter, I will never out-produce him on skirms again. I find this absolutely infuriating because the winning strat seems to be blindly massing skirms, to the point you think to yourself you're stupidly crippling your own eco by investing in what is a completely worthless unit if it's not facing massed archers or massed pikes. It demands a blind leap of faith into massed skirms that, if your opponent simply tech switches, you're EQUALLY fucked. Yes, I can accept it's my fault if I continue to think "SURELY they're not that one-dimensional," but I also think it's time to acknowledge a flaw if being that one-dimensional can actually work as a strat.
I miss playing games that didn't go through a pattern of mass archers ----> mix in onagers to stop skirms OR forward castle ---> rush imp for trebs. I miss legit anything else: infantry rush, cavalry rush....ffs even tower rushes are feeling like a treat now. It's also frustrating in the sense I get the vibe I could jump 200 ELO if I no-lifed Ethiopia since they beat 90% of archer civs at that game, but I also hate the idea of simply selling out to such a strat to succeed, yknow? I'd prefer learning different strats and styles and not going hurrdurr archer and nothing but.
So what if alternatively, they dropped either the skirmisher food cost or made skirms produce faster?
DE had the side-effect where archers are stronger than ever due to pathing. This isn't a flawed design with archers, but rather a flawed design elsewhere that indirectly buffs archers. So why not indirectly nerf them aswell to make things even? What if skirms costed 5 less food? What if they took 17 seconds to produce instead of 22.
A big issue with skirms is half the time it feels like a better solution is to meet an archer rush with your own archers instead of skirms, precisely because skirms cost food, and thus someone archer rushing you can indirectly put you behind in the eco game just by going archers. If Skirms were dirt cheap on food, this makes them more appealing.
It just feels like archers have too much going for them, both in terms of raw firepower and their economical effects (aka costs their creator 0 food, but the counter units all cost food)
What do you guys think?
Age of Empires Forum New siege unit, corpse catapult Age of Empires II: DE II - Discussion New siege unit, corpse catapult Age of Empires II: DE II - Discussion
EvilLordMrF 2h Maybe for an UU.
It is a catapult with a very weaker attack, compared to normal onagres. But, the projectile should have an additional effect. Here my suggestions:
It could damage the garrisoned units inside Rams, towers, ships and buildings. A normal onagres would destroy a town center in a much faster time. But, a corpse catapult would harm the villagers inside the town center with every shot, killing them after a number of shots. That forces your rival to evacuate them before the TC destruction.
It could create an area of effect with damage on time. But this could be complicated, and it would change a lot of the gameplay.
It could poison the units attacked, with a small damage on time for the next minute. The units could garrison to try to survive. But normal onagres would just kill the units, which is better.
It just has a bonus against Calvary and ships. But the normal onagres are that strong that it don’t need any bonus against those units.
I consider the first option the one that gives the unit an original niche, that can be useful in raids.
The other options would be cool if the corpse catapult had a cheap prize, not like the onagre. It could even be considered a trash siege.
There were some civs that used biological warfare in this sense. Turks and tatar are good examples.
"Lost connection to server. attempting to reconnect...."
have this problem like every 4th game i play and when it occurs my game just stands still and i can close the game.
is this an individual problem or are there more people having it?
I'm sure people ask this all the time but I can't seem to find and answer.
How do I pause the game on a Dell Laptop due to a lack of pause button. I cannot seem to re figure the key bindings to change the functionality of the pause mechanic. Thank you
If I go isis for example, thoth elephants with petsuchos or chariots can pretty much handle anything. sometimes i add a roc and siege towers. Priest spam with siege units is gimmicky but there are a few situations where it works well.
With the chinese a balance of barracks/castle/temple units seem to handle most threats quite well. but I find war chariots/scout cavalry tends to be less effective in the mix.
with the norse, hersir spam with counter archer support is very fun to play when the myth unit deathball starts rolling.
Almost 50% of all multiplayer games I play have someone desync within the first 20 minutes, which causes everyone else to call gg. It's unclear if this a server issue or people's games keep crashing. But regardless, it is at the point where multiplayer has become genuinely unplayable. Although I appreciate the devs for working on balance/gameplay changes if the game simply doesn't work half the time, what's the point?
What's the current meta for battle elephants? I'm trying out the South Asian civs and I'm tempted to build my army composition around the elephants, but I'm not really sure how and where they fit in.
They're tanky but not as tanky as the Persian war elephant and are quite susceptible to halbs and monks. They're fairly resource intensive and lack mobility.
So: 1) How and in what situations do people generally use them? 2) What are the viable army compositions for them? 3) How does it compare to the knight line?
i.e.
Hunting Dogs was a dark age tech for a while, and Gill nets is an AoE3 tech. (and AoM had some fishing upgrades as well.
Cutting hunting dogs is for the best, given how weird it was, but I really like gillnets as a way to add an upgrade to fish trapping.
First of all, there was a lot of complaints about CA efficiency in DE before the patch. Most importantly, they were not just from noob-ish players like me, but from the very top players. I remember hearing them from TheViper and slam at least. But I think that the recent patch make the ca problem even more valuable.
I just had a game, where I was playing cumans against huns.
I played up to imp pretty bad with a lot of misclicks, and probably not the best strategy (I played cumans first time on arabia, I guess, and they are a tricky civ). At some point in imp I was forced to take a fight, where I had almost twice less units than the enemy, all my units are fu cavalier, all his units are fu hca. So my plan was basically to take the fight, say gg, and resign. However, I won this fight, and then won the game. CA were extremely underwhelming.
With new pathing I feel that the only way to play ca is "hit and run" style, which is extremely microintensive. Of course, balance should be corrected for professional players first of all, but say at my level (1300 elo) there is no chance that a player would micro them perfectly AND control situation in the other point of a map. And at this level people understand that and will raid/side attack. Finally, just compare microing ca and microing kipchaks. The first is really no fun.
So I just don't see why would I use ca at all (apart from very specific situation like in response to enemy mangudais).
I would love to hear your thoughts about ca, especially people that are better than me.
I want to get into writing ai for aoe2. Is it possible to load campaign missions as scenarios so that I can play my ai against the campaign?
Is there some other way to have custom ai to play in campaign missions?
Wanting to work on moving towards being able to effectively play random and want to go over a few matchups, anyone know best place to find some EE v2.8 recorded games?
Sometimes I meet Incas in team game. (harder to meet than other meso civs)
And when I meet Incas, almost of them go tower. Yes, tower.
I think they have weaker eco than Aztecs and Mayans, but anyway decent bonus, decent tech tree,
But I rarely can see other strategy except tower.
Why almost incas player just go tower? Incas are bad except tower rush? Then they need some changes?
Today when I was playing two multiplayer games, the game suddenly froze and tried to reconnect, even though the internet apparently has nothing wrong with it. I couldn't do anything else except for quitting and loosing my Elo score. It seems like this only happened since the hotfix, has anyone met the same problem?
Hi guys! I've recently come back to AOE after a 10 years pause. Got into DE and been watching some YT videos like Spirit of the Law and Hera. After losing several online matches, I set myself to the task of defeating the Hard AI.
I feel I've got a good grasp of DA build orders, and can reasonably push some Feudal raiding with 5 - 7 units (be it m@a or archers), while somewhat avoiding idle TC/villagers.
My issue is mainly in Castle Age. This is when I lose momentum and start to fall behind. Between 3 TC booming, caring for unit, blacksmith and University upgrades, pushing for the relic war, building siege, castle and additional military buildings, 5 minutes have passed and my opponent is well back on his feet. My army usually ends up growing but idle, and when I try to use it, my opponent has already massed counters.
There on, everything goes downhill. I find it hard to addapt and respond, and find myself quickly overwhelmed.
Is there any tip, guide or advice specifically regarding to castle age you can give me?
Thanks in advance!
Would love a Helms Deep style scenario if anyone has seen one
Sincerely,
An angry gamer 1 hour and 30 minutes into the game.
My friends and I usually don’t fight until the imperial age and they figured how to beat my aztec unit combo. What is a good civ for late game with high and with low resources? I was thinking Japanese for lower resource maps but idk. Thanks
So I was playing a game with 3 other friends as the Aztecs on Arabia. The map size was max and my main opponent was the Teutons. He made loads of paladins and Teutonic Knights to kill my pikes. We had a lot of back and forth and even a meat grinder battle in a chicken point where we both lost upwards of 1500 men (my total losses at the end were around 3500) without halbs I found it super hard to counter all the waves of paladins and when he sent in Teutonic Knights I broke. When he attacked a mother friend later on (Japanese) he apparently mowed down waves of paladins with hand canonneers. Can 40 HCs really take on 40 paladins even at close range and do they benefit from blacksmith upgrades. If so I might change my main civ from aztecs to a more modern civ.
I was playing the babylonian mission Holy Man. I remember that I beat all the campaigns when I was a kid.
I know the AI doesn't cheat with resources on AoE2 but it seems to me that it does in AoE1:DE.
I Basically managed to wall myself, and build a counter attack, but the AI kept spamming chariots and priests. I ran out of gold and stone, I managed to build a fort on the south of the river, walled it and put several towers. Then that gold resource depleted and I just couldn't keep training units that required gold.
The AI seemed to be struggling for gold too, because it kept trying to cross over to my side to mine my gold.
That being said 20 minutes more of game and I could only spam archers, axemen and horsemen because there was no more gold on the map, but the AI still kept training priests, and chariots (not as often as before, but it could field 5 or 6 chariots and 4 priests consistently).
I recognize that I failed in micromanaging the army but I was hoping to be able to at least overwhelm them with units.
Also I noticed that I get outranged by priests every time, and my units are too stupid to follow them for some reason. Any tip regarding this?

Hey guys, how are you doing?
We've been playing for a while and greatly enjoying this game. Its an amazing experience to share with friends and we are even making community leagues and charity tournaments (SuperleAGE).
However we've had some terrible experiences during the last weeks. There are people that ruin the entire experience for everyone by forcing all to play at minimum FPS. Im talking about literally between 6 and 10 FPS.
We've had too many of this issues recently at it is truly a shitty experience, it even makes your eyesight ache. After one of those games, nobody plays for a few hours.
And this is happening in the ranked ladder, which we take seriously (its a seeding mechanic and a way to evaluate your skills).
I don't think its aceptable to have everyone suffering because someone can't handdle the game they bought. Its not fair and it is a drawback specially in close maps, which now we must ban for fear of having to either suffer a bad experience or plainly disconnect.
I dont know if this is due to a falseable benchmark test or some netcode issue but it truly ruins the experience. If everyone suffered one of these games recently, they can testify for it.
Please dont make everyone have a shitty experience in the game they love because of one person. Hopefully I can get a response from the great dev team
Hi all,
We were playing as Incas and Byzantines versus the mentioned Knight/Crossbow combo in castle age.
I know we were at a disadvantage either way, but what do you think would be our best army composition against this combo?
Cheers
(with reduced stats until Castle Age if necessary. But since they won't have access to Thumb Ring, it might not even be necessary)
That would be fun to see, very distinct from other civs and would allow an even smoother transition to Castle Age (with a huge powerspike due to free Thumb Ring). Skirms would still counter them and pikes would also threaten them. But they would be awesome for raiding.
If Tatars get a buff, I think this one would be very suitable.
hello,
1 simple question: does that viking unique tech work well against byzantines? can some1 do the math for me? :)

I left gaming altogether a real long time ago. Last time I played was CBA in 2014 or 15. Recently I found a youtuber 'T90' and was instantly hooked back to aoe2 but the game feels very different. New civs, new techs, new units, elo ranking and stuff. I seriously thought that aoe would be dead by now. Can you guys please help me in catching up. I have a bunch of questions before I start playing again.
Hi, just a couple of questions. Do you play as the same civ/s, or choose depending on opponents?
I'm still getting beat by moderate AI. Any tips or info to help?
Thanks
Is this intentional? Seems like there is no reason to ever train strelets from blockhouse once you get a fort or galleon into play. Blockhouse of 10 is 375 food and 100 wood while training a single one is 37 food and 10 wood
Coaching available if anyone is interested, rating right now sits around 17xx although I have not played 1v1's consistently since May.
Username is same on steam, feel free to add me
I’m sick of loosing to this noob strat. Today I played 2v2 on mongolia HD edition as byzantines. He tc dropped me, I delete mine and clicked fuedal as soon as it rebuilt. Went to stone and towered some of his res, ally showed up with scouts and we were doing fine, then his ally showed up with 15+ knights and castled on top of me. Gg soon after. I’m fucking sick of losing to this, I get paranoid any time someone picks Persians. What do I do to consistently beat it?

Is it an upgrade you can get with starting resources?
if the meta to have 6 villagers on hunting, I can see it effectively creating 2 villagers for the cost of 100 wood 100 gold and drop off point time being really good.
Obviously not quite as good as building workers, but you can do both, and if you use starting resources, there is no opportunity cost.

Hi, my friends wanna play AOE3, and I've bought it in steam a long time ago, but they are playing in gameranger, can I play with them? Are there any compatibility issues? Thanks for helping me out

I recall a game when I was younger (like 2005ish) against a norse player named PIKABOY1 and he did a thor all dwarve super early classic TA-tower rush. It wasnt the best strategy in the world, but he played it into the 1700s comfortably in good match ups. Anyways I decided to try something similar.
The strategy utilizes the 4:15 classical odin build lifted from an old player BO; roughly
-2 starting gatherers to hunt(use gh) + hunting dogs -1 more gatherer to hunt -1 gatherer to gold -1 ox to gold -1 gatherer to gold -1 gatherer to wood straggler tree, preferably near your ox -1 dwarf to gold -1 gatherer to wood -1 dwarf to gold -3 hunters to food (Try to get a house up before this so you aren't popped. Also start a temple by the latest 2:35.) -1 dwarf to gold -1 dwarf to gold or ox cart wood
(varies depending resource placements)
Up between 3:00-3:15. Heimdal except against greeks and maybe isis, because Freya is better for harrassing wood and avoiding the range classical hero, and isis is a pain for undermine.
anyways, I am adjusting the specifics but while going up build a hersir, scout with ravens to find their hunt, gold and second gold, and main wood, and at home transfer all the gatherers from gold to wood and ~3 from hunt to wood. Make a second hersir if possible.
as soon as you up make a longhouse and a second longhouse with ulf and hersir and a couple houses with ulf. Long house 1 can make an ulfsark for building faster but start TA either right away or after extra ulf. TA building at both from here on out. Economically, working it out, but basically new gatherers to hunt if close or herd if hunters are far, and dwarves on gold and just sort of balance things out. No economic upgrades right away (except the HD from the beginning)
The key is to start the hersir attacking immediately after the long houses are built to get 10 favor, and as soon as you do, research muspell axe. The cost reduction is extreme, 100 wood 100 gold and 10 favor and 20 seconds research. This adds two range to your axemen which allows them to hit villagers from outside TC range pretty consistently. You want your ravens to give sight around areas where they might turtle. And use your einherjar and undermine to hit towers around resources (unlikely that you'll take a TC down with TA so don't need to save it for a final push). If Freya, use that Valkarie to raid their wood and just be a pain while your TA focus on either gold or forward hunt vills.
Furthermore, pull back injured TA and set to defensive so they heal fast (upped to 2hp/s in previous patch).
Well, the rest is just mass TA and make them miserable for the first few mins of your rush. Gradually mix in ulfs and RC (ulfs are good due to fast build time) and I usually get another myth unit out there. Be sure to keep up with economy (i struggle with tunnel vision and am working on keeping it steady without having 30 AQ dwarves on gold, grabbing upgrades).
Obviously this works on land maps only. But match up wise it works well against norse and atty, havent tried this current incarnation against eggy. Greek are tricky but probably shouldnt rush hades in general. Greeks are strong but you can starve them off wood to good effect so Freya would be preferable.
Also, I'm going to experiment with Boit's 5 ulf odin early TC build but instead of making a TC I will follow my TA aggression tactics.
Totally noobish but i am trying to feel out the patch changes for new strategies. I think this could work for all norse gods but I am most comfortable with odin, and it'd be pretty weak for loki relative to his hersirs. Thor I am not sure because he can up very early as well, plus he can get cheap armory upgrades but usually by the time you can afford the armory and copper shields and weapons, the game is already being determined (either your rush succeeded or they are gonna wreck you shortly after). Maybe thor could use foreseti for additional ranged support and healing (plus additional trolls are less costly since they are wood).
tl;dr fast classic w heavy wood gathering during up, get TA and early axe of muspell to add 2 range for sniper throwing axemen, utilize odins healing for more effective, sustained rush-harass.
Anyways, please point out things I may be missing or suggestions. I doubt this will move the meta but it is fun to try things out of the ordinary.
What do you guys think of giving Melee Damage and Trample Damage to Elephant Archers?
I mean the unit is an Elephant so the elephant attacking the units on the ground is reasonable right. You could argue the same for horses and camels archer units. But Elephant is more tanky and more deals more damage in general.
Also, Elephant archers are the weakest unique unit, so giving it some buffing like this is fair I guess?
So stop saying it sucks. And Celt players dont be afraid of using it more!
Rank (Equal numbers not cost effectiveness since knight line in imperial is more about pop efficiency)
1) Lithuanians (Best depending on relics) 2) Teutons
3) Franks
4) Persians (Generic paladins but Anti Archer bonus)
5) Cumans (Generic pals but Faster)
6) Magyar (Generic pals but free attack upgrades)
7) Spanish (Generic pals but no gold upgrades)
8) Huns
9) Bulgarians
10) Celts
11) Malian
12) Byzantines
Since the last update I’ve noticed on multiple occasions when a monk gets to a relic sometimes they pick it up and other times it vanishes or teleports to another part of the map. Is this a known glitch?
Why does this game have such a ******* censoring? It censors practically anything. Is there a way to turn it off?
It's a civ that doesn't see a ton of play despite having some really neat options in castle/imp. In theory they have a really solid M@A opening but going M@A--> archers is super awkward since they don't get Xbow.
What if they got xbow? They still won't have a good archer line long term but at least this will give their dismal early game a much needed boost in terms of options.
Two OG favorites!
Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Aztecs vs Persians, and next up is the Celts vs Chinese!
Celts: Infantry and Siege civilization
Chinese: Archer Balanced civilization
Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!
Thanks as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Byzantines vs Vietnamese. Hope to see you there! :)

Are the felled konniks able to take damage while the animation of them getting back up is in progress?
I was playing with halbs and the felled konniks getting up was blocking and locking/stuttering my halb movement.
Perhaps theres a small advantage with massing konniks around halbs and cutting off micro.

seriously idk if people on my timezone are just specially keen on the meta or maybe the 1.2k unscapable pit I find myself but all my Matches be team games or 1v1 have either :
Franks(all the time on Arabia)
britons (even on Baltic somehow)
Mongols(Arabia or arena pick you flavour of mangudai)
Ethiopians (yay more Archer civs)
Mayans (because the game needed cheaper Archers somewhere)
seriously even though goths have a lot of playrste I never find them, and let's not even talk about malians, Bulgarians, tatars, Koreans or even Chinese.
nope it's archers and Frank's, archers and Frank's, and the occasional cuman who basically plays like a Frank with faster paladin.
Can we have the scenario added to the historical battles after the event ends?
The game records from early July cannot be played and an incompatible error popped up at a certain time midway through the record.
It seems like each update is creating more bugs and problems, smh
Cost: 40 wood 15 stone
Can be placed over two tiles of water. Building requires at least one villager on either side to construct. Can be locked/unlocked. Can not be converted by enemy monks.
Stats: 500HP, Pierce Armour 3, LOS 5, Build time 45sec
I can see how problematic this might be so if this idea has been talked about before I would love to hear about it
Thanks!

I recently got the age of empires 2 Definitive edition on steam (during a sale). Me and my wife got a copy each. I hosted a multiplayer server on Local network, but my wife was unable to join the server. This is the error she got.
Unable to connect to battleserver. R_NATFailure
I then hosted on an internet server (India West) and she was able to join.
We googled a lot, and found the official aoe website, which specifies to open up a list of ports on the firewall, which we have done on both the machines. Still no luck.
Has anyone managed to get LAN multiplayer working on the steam edition? If yes, kindly share what you have done to make it work.
For reference, we have a router which is connected to internet, and both of our machines connect to the router using WiFi.
Tis a story of ambition, of valor, of grit,
Of a Conqueror and an Emperor, told bit by bit.
A land of peace, of civilizations with dreams,
'bout to witness villagers' and fighting mens' screams.
A Conqueror, his eye on the kingdom he hath not been given,
An Emperor, his ambition on the cup that is hidden.
Equal beginnings, the sheep, the boar, the trees,
Only murmurs of future bloody engagements in the breeze.
With the shrouds of darkness thrown hither with food,
The villages now enter the age of feud.
Lest feud too long and blinded by siege,
The villages fear the victory out of reach.
The Conqueror's machines aiming stones at the start,
Have the Emperor stood silent with his hand on his heart.
Whilst the Conqueror streams horsemen, spearmen, machines,
The Emperor is patient, and chalks an economic scheme.
Conqueror goes too far, dreams of a forward beast in stone!
His dreams are shattered, all remains is a castle of doubt alone.
The Emperor smiles, he may not be that quick,
but tis a game of patience, of position and wit.
'Not just you', the Conqueror bellows,
'My army is valiant, will push you to your hollows'.
The raids of the Conqueror far and wide,
Made the Emperor, in a barrel hide.
'Ahh this is beautiful, disgusting, unbelievable and brave',
shout the overlords, voiced by T90 and Dave.
The cannons, the spears, the javelins all violent,
Slowly, but surely, it all starts getting silent.
Where were castles reaching the skies galore,
Now lies torn armor of the horsemen's valor.
Forests abundant once upon the dark times,
All bloodied sand now under the imperial war chimes.
In his heart he knew, he had lost, his men outwitted,
But he is the Conqueror, many more battlefields to be pitted.
On his mighty horse, his throne, down his crown he laid,
As he muttered the hallowed words - 'gg well played.'
For people who cannot access their replays from the previous patch.
You will need .NET Core Runtime from Microsoft: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download
Here's a link to the 2 files mentioned in the tutorial below: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s2r7e3zo5yozdqo/files.zip?dl=0
The contents of these 2 files are the list of files that were removed/replaced with the latest patch. The below commands will download those aforementioned files from the previous patch (39284)
Step 1: Download Steam Depot Downloader from here (The zip file, not the source code!): https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases/tag/DepotDownloader_2.3.6
Step 2: Unzip the archive anywhere.
Step 3: Copy the following files to the DepotDownloader folder that you just extracted: 813781.txt, 813782.txt. Files provided above.
Step 4: Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder where you unzipped DepotDownloader
Step 5: Run the following commands in the command prompt. Replace <steamusername> and <steampassword> with actual values. The data is sent directly to Steam and your credentials are safe. If you have 2FA on your account, you will be asked for the code in the command prompt.
1:
dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 813780 -depot 813781 -manifest 3406020475065138362 -filelist 813781.txt -dir old_files -username <steamusername> -password <steampassword> -remember-password
2:
dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 813780 -depot 813782 -manifest 8709789847028605534 -filelist 813782.txt -dir old_files -username <steamusername> -password <steampassword> -remember-password
These commands will download the files that have been replaced/removed with the latest patch. You can verify that the depot/manifest IDs are correct by going to https://steamdb.info/app/813780/
Step 6: Inside your DepotDownloader folder, you should now have a 'old_files' folder. Copy everything from that folder (except the .DepotDownloader folder) to your AoE2DE install folder, usually 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE'
Step 7: When asked to replace files, press 'Yes'. If you aren't asked to replace any files, you've fucked up somewhere. Sit in a corner and cry.
Step 8: Start the game now. You should be on the 39284 patch. Verify by loading a replay from the previous version.
Step 9: To go back to the latest version, just right-click on the game from inside Steam, click on Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game files. After verifying, it'll tell you about the files that need to be re-downloaded. Once those files are downloaded, you should be on the latest patch again. If you need to go back to the previous version again, just copy/paste the files from the old_files folder again.
how do invites and friends/clans work on DE? Usually play 1v1 but been playing some team games and had some good games with guys and joined a clan but can never get into a game with them. Is it better to add on steam so you can message? What happens when you send an invite to your lobby? do they get a notification or do they have to be actively looking for the invite?
I learned the scout rush build order, and can execute it with minimal idle time. I send my five scouts only to find they have mostly walled and have spears. I manage to get in there base and pick off 3 vils. I retreat my scouts and come back to a fully walled base. I shifted my economy to go to castle so I could get siege, but they got up before me and had 3 this when I hit castle. What is the point of being aggressive if defending is way cheaper and way easier, and how do I counter a full wall with a scout rush bo?
Any generation, console, maker, etc. 1,5,10 however you feel like posting. Ganes you truly think are absolute must. There are no rules on this list. I want to see which games repeat the most. I am planing to play those games that get repeated the most. Thanks in advance. This could be fun and others could get ideas
If somebody is interested here is a list of dome of them
Witcher 3 Halo Age of Empires 2 Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater Mortal Kombat Super Smash Bros Melee The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Majora’s Mask and Breath of The Wild Super Mario 64 Mario Party 2 or 3 Counter Strike Global Offensive Mario Kart 8 Wii Sports Assassins Creed 2 Sonic Adventure 2 Super Mario Bros Dark Souls Pokemon (either firered/leafgreen or soul silver and heart gold) Resident Evil 4 Metroid Prime Turok 2 Banjo Kazoie God of War Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 Dragon Quest 8 SoulCalibur 2
There are some other amazing games like Goldeneye that have not age so well, thats why I dont put them. Others that maybe I dont know about. Maybe some consider these games not to be Must Play, at the end it can be subjective.
Lag still persists, and even seems to be worsened.
Cannot quit properly, has to force quite steam to make sure it's not running after you hit the exit button from the user interface
Curious if most people stick with the default hotkeys or change them?
If you do change it, what changes did you make and why?
Looking for a recourse management game kind of like age of empires for mobile any suggestions or suggestions for decent mobile games ( I'm on android)
