I never see pros using spies to get an idea of enemy villager count

I imagine that the opponent villager count is useful information, especially to a pro, but they never seem to bother even looking.

I've even seen an island game where Hera vs Viper and Vipis villager count dropped to zero, but still no spies. Am I missing something about why this isn't used?
