In multiple posts I've developed a very strong distaste for the wall meta- so how unreasonable would it be for me to try it out for myself and figure out just how stupidly broken it really is?
It turned out to be boring, I felt cheap doing it, I got an easy civ win in the post-imp, and I repelled 100% of the feudal aggro I had thrown at me.
The matchup was Incas vs Franks, so reasonably I could expect a scrush, and I had a nice, easily wallable map- so that's exactly what I did. My build did not survive. I could barely get my double racks up for eagles and the second mill I needed to put down for berries (since I'm weird and mill deer first) came very late, and the blacksmith that I usually put down instantly with this build came in late feudal. Now, I'm sure you've already come up with adaptations to your builds that account for walling, but all of those builds are consequently slower, and I could totally wipe slower builds in early feudal if I so desired.
I got scrushed despite the fact that he already knew I was fullwalled. I didn't even wall behind, I just put my feudal units there and he had to move his units to a different part of my base. this continued into mid-castle (now featuring Kamayuk) where he finally broke through a building that was part of my wall and was instantly met with my military units. I was down a barracks, a point that didn't matter as I was just making straight Kamayuk at this point.
He outboomed me. I'm not even good at booming, so I totally understand how he does it, but I go through all this effort to fullwall and deny feudal aggro and I still am left behind him. If I wanted this sort of play I'd have Arena unbanned, not to make my own DIY Arena. He best me to imp by 4 minutes and boomed to 1.5x as many vils. I could have *easily* punished that if I were playing any other way but no, I had to fight the long fight to win.
I played the game like a 600-700 level player at best- just wait until imp to do anything and then have one big army battle. For context, I am at 1358 1v1 elo as of this win. It certainly was enjoyable to watch 102 Kamayuk stream through his base, but I would've enjoyed the game much more if I hadn't walled and lost- and I'm such a sore loser sometimes. Why is the "meta" to play 750 points below my level? The wall meta takes away the fun of feudal age, as well as ruins the point of there being a feudal age.
tl;dr: "notorious" Inca main tries the antithesis of his normal strategy, does not understand its appeal.
