How to play Cannibals Escape as the cannibals?

I played some lobby games of Cannibals Escape as the runners today, and it went pretty well. Strategy for the runners is straightforward: build walls, farm, get more vills. but eventually I went as player 7 (the Cannibal) and I got absolutely destroyed. I thought I was doing well, I used my merchant to buy as many vills as possible, but my opponent just spammed bombard towers and I couldn't get in. It wasn't an issue of not being able to find them, I simply couldn't break through. What are your strategies as the cannibal in Cannibal Escape ?
