Is there a way to have the AI share control over civilization with a player?

I'm playing with a group of 3-4 adults and one or two of their children - and we're looking for some means to compensate for the skill gap.

In another RTS, StarCraft, I might be able to have multiple humans and AI share the same color/player.
I'm wondering if I can do the same thing with a mod for Age or if I'll have to make a custom scenario where I use triggers to supplement their units production
