File transfers (especially for data mods) in public lobbies need a revamp.

The way it works (as is my understanding) is that when the host clicks ready, it prompts every player to accept a file download. It then copies the files (scenario, random map script or mod) and once everyone has the files, they can ready up and the host can start the game. simple right ?

unfortunately there are two big problems imo:

  • if you already have files of the same name, it doesn't prompt you to (a) overwrite or (b) cancel the download. instead, it just doesn't work, and the host not only will not be able to start the game, they will not know which player has incompatible files. They can rehost, but if the faulty player rejoins (they also do not know their files are incompatible because they weren't prompted) they will never be able to start.

  • second, it doesn't save the files (only for scenarios apparently?). I happened to play a scenario that I really enjoyed, I went to host it myself and I can't find it. It's as if the download is only good for the duration of the game, if you want to play it again you have to find a manual download or go to the mods page, and it isn't guaranteed it will be there. if you regularly play CBA or Roll the Dice, you will notice you download the same files every single time.
