Losing streaks and how to get better as a low ELO player

I bought the definitive edition earlier this year and had my first online matches ever. I still remeber the game from when I was a kid and it was brand new. I must say playing online instead of against the AI is so much better but I have now come to my second bigger losing streak (lost 10 out of my last 12) and it is quite discouraging. I do not really understand what my issues are. I am also trying to learn BO with the interactive guide to get better but I would think my biggest issue is getting attacked and not knowing how to properly react to it. There are so many civs and seemingly almost infinitive matchups. Even after 100+games I sometimes wonder how to counter a certain strategy/unit of my opponent. I thought i could get to around 1000 elo by the end of the year but that seems impossible to me now. I have dropped from ~900ish elo back to below 800. I feel like almost no match I have is close its either an easy win for me or getting stomped myself. What shall I do to get better and overcome these tough losses. Thank U fellow players

Also I have had lag issues these last 2 days anyone experiencing the same or is it just my laptop?
