Yes, yes, I know, a lot of people have already done this civilization concept so many times and many ideas such as this one tend to be more cavalry focused. For me, I prefer the Armenians to be more of a "jack-of-all-trades" civilization similar to the Byzantines (which makes sense since historically the Byzantines had a strong influence in the region) and want to see a civ with an Eastern European architecture set that have access to gunpowder units and Bombard Towers. So some ideas are very similar to what others in this subreddit has (and even unit names and techs), but I have more different approach here. In terms of their gameplay, the Armenians have a well-rounded tech tree that allows them to do any kind of strategy, the increased movement speed for cavalry units means that can scout easier in the early game or do a Scout rush (although they are missing Husbandry to balance that off). They also do a strong Archer rush with the increased attack for their Archery Range units per age (except Hand Cannoneers, since 20 attack Hand Cannoneers is pretty OP) and do a reasonable cavalry archer in the Castle Age thanks to the increased movement speed for their cavalry units and the additional attack for their Archery Range units, but they miss out on the last two Imperial Age Blacksmith upgrades for their Archery Range units (both the armor and the attack, I originally was considering giving them the last Archer armor upgrade, but their cavalry archers will be just as good as the Magyar ones if they were given that so I decided not to give them that and allow more lategame counterplay on their Archery Range units). In terms of their cavalry, their Castle Age unique tech gives extra melee armor for their Stable units (they have a near complete tech tree for their cavalry) and their heavily armored UU, Ayrudzi, but they miss out on Blast Furnace, making their cavalry units more like meatshields rather than offensive roles (and they also don't get Hussars because Hussars with extra melee armor will be OP). Their Imperial Age tech is very similar to the Feitoria, but the difference is that the amount of resource trickle you get is fixed (as opposed to the Feitoria where you can build like multiple of them in the game at the expensive your population space, not to mention that you don't get Stone trickle)), meaning their resource trickle is a bit higher than a single Feitoria. To balance this out, the Armenians don't get Crop Rotation, Two-Man Saw, and Gold Shaft Mining. The only biggest disadvantage as the Armenians is that they don't get any significant early game eco bonuses, but they have strong Feudal Age bonuses with Archers and Scouts which help transition to their midgame units in the Castle Age such as Camels, Knights, and cavalry Archers. They are also pretty solid in the lategame with a well-round and diverse tech tree. ---------- Civilization bonuses:
---------- Team bonus:
---------- Unique Unit: Ayrudzi - Heavily armored cavalry unit armed with a mace that sacrifices offensive power and mobility for more durability.
---------- Unique Techs: Azatavrear: 300 Food, 400 Gold - Castle Age
Asfin al-Armani: 600 Food, 600 Wood, 1000 Gold - Imperial Age
