I am an avid player of RTS game, and I've long waited for a persistent RTS game that can be played over a period of days, months, and even years. Think... a never ending game of Age of Empires or Rise of Nations. I thought such a game would never come until I tried Beyond Protocol. Made by a small indy developer team called Dark Sky Entertainment. They tried to charge 15 dollars a month for the game, and could not get enough support, so they canceled it, and dumped the code on source forge. Over the past few weeks, my brother and I have worked hard to bring this server back online, and make it available to the public for free. I'm proud to say that we finally have finished this task! The game assets need some improvements, but this game is one of the deepest RTS games you will ever play. The tech tree isn't even a tree, but rather a cloud, and contains hundreds of technologies. Ships and buildings are created out of minerals dug out of the ground by players, which themselves are employed by miners working for player colonies. Imagine Eve online... but you actually get to design your ships, land on planets, and develop (and rule) your own empires.
