Extended Edition won't run (Steam Version)

Okay so, I've had the extended edition for a while, bought it a few years back due to my nostalgia for the original game, and while it did work for my old windows 7 PC, it will not work for my new gaming PC. Every time I open the game, it opens up the launcher like normal. I click play, and the splash screen pops up for a sec before going black like normal. However, nothing happens after that, it just sits at the black screen for a few seconds before closing the program and dumping me back at the desktop without so much as an error message. Its like the game closed itself without ever loading anything, and it does this every time I repeat the process. Launcher, press play, splash screen, blackness, close to desktop, rinse, repeat ad nauseam. What could the problem be and how can I fix it?
