Was looking for a quick match before going out and found someone at my ELO hosting a 1v1. Pretty much as soon as I got into the lobby and readied up they hit start.
So I found out it was Black Forest - a bit dull but okay. I wall up far away with a villager and my scout before I even have 3 on sheep, but they break that off with FIVE villagers and then wall their five villagers in on my side. I’m thinking, okay they’ll be behind because of that and I send a few vills to kill them in case they build military on my side later. By this point they have >3K more score than I do, and I asked them why - they didn’t know. I naively jotted it down to scouting. Job done killing the vills, I wall up with palisades and I get back to my economy for an inevitable win, right?
Well they click up to feudal around the same time as me, and I see five men at arms knocking down my walls. With some messy diagonal walling behind, archers and a tower I’m safe ... until they send in 12 archers. This is all right after feudal and I am feeling so confused. Goth mirror so I can’t stone wall.
I’m holding on with some skirms and quick walls. They send in 8 scouts that get picked off by a prescient switch to spears. Get up to castle same time as them and try to plop 3 TCs whilst I still have some map control. I have a flimsy defence in that choke point but they threw away all those scouts and have been creating more military than me so I assume I’m ahead. I have enough stone for a castle now and reckon I can hold off that chokepoint till imperial.
I was wrong - 40 huskarls rush through, with archers behind. I think this is getting ridiculous and resign. I see siege, two castles, and 30 knights in their base. Oddly I see no farms, and all their sheep, wild animals, are still alive. I go to achievements and they have 0 food and 0 gold collected. What a waste of 36 minutes that was. Don’t play with GeoTsavi on steam, and make sure to check if cheats are enabled before playing.
