New civ idea: Zapotec, a trash and monk civ.

I've been playing as Inca a lot lately, and I love their skirmishers -- few people seem to know that they can be upgraded to have no minimum range, so they'll send some cheap melee units to fight them and be surprised when my skirms win in the end. There have been games where I've won with nothing but skirms, halbs, and slingers (Inca's non-castle UU, basically a Meso hand cannoneer.)

So this got me thinking about what you could do if you gave a civ bonuses specifically to buff their trash units. Here's my "proposal":

Civ bonuses:

  • Villagers have additional hit points, armor, and attack starting in feudal age and increasing each age, being slightly tougher than upgraded Spanish villagers in Imp.
  • Monks have +1/+1 armor and +20 hit points.
  • Skirmishers have +1/+1 armor in Castle, +2/+1 armor in Imperial, and reduced minimum range.
  • Spearman line has +1/+1 armor in Castle, +1/+2 armor in Imperial.
  • Skirms and Spearman line have +20% hit points.

Unique Unit:

The Quetzal Priest, a heavily armored, fast moving (for a monk,) high hit point monk that heals faster than normal monks, but has a conversion range of zero.

Unique Techs:

  • (Castle Age): Jade Spears. Eagle warriors do additional damage to infantry and siege units.
  • (Imperial Age): Flowers and Song. Increases conversion chance.

Team Bonus:

Food and wood gather faster.

So the idea is that the Zapotec's trash units are tougher, but have reduced damage. QPs are a gold-intensive unit, to offset the Zapotec's otherwise gold-free military makeup. They also lack Arbalests and Champions, and don't get Bracer or Blast Forge. They have access to all monastery techs, but QPs do not benefit from Block Printing. This would encourage a play style of large numbers of trash units backed up by their tougher, faster converting monks. A Zapotec army should be like a swarm of flies: individually weak, but annoying as fuck in large numbers.

The unique techs are to provide some protection against siege and lessen Eagle Warrior's vulnerability to infantry; and to create an additional incentive to spend money on monks and QPs.

I know this has little chance of being implemented, but I would love to see additional Meso civs (or perhaps even North American civs, with cavalry!) and I think this one is in line with their overall theme.
